USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack to be First Guest

Nashville, TN – Commodity Wrap, a new prime-time weekly “live” television broadcast designed to further inform and advise farmers and ranchers during these times of large price swings and market fluctuations in commodity prices and inputs will premiere on RFD-TV this Monday evening, March 2, beginning at 7pm (eastern).

United States Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack has been confirmed to be first guest on this historic broadcast. Secretary Vilsack will be the sole guest for this one-hour production, and will originate “live” from the USDA headquarters in Washington, D.C. while being linked via satellite with Mark Oppold, RFD-TV News Director and host of Commodity Wrap, through the company’s Nashville broadcast operations center. This will be Secretary Vilsack’s first “live” interactive national television broadcast since being confirmed to lead USDA.

Topics projected to be addressed with the Secretary during the broadcast include a summary of the Ag Outlook Forum, implementation of the 2008 Farm Bill, and the recently passed Stimulus Bill as it relates to agriculture and rural America. RFD-TV viewers will also have an opportunity to ask questions directly to Secretary Vilsack via phone calls taken on-air, and through Commodity Wrap’s interactive web site through www.rfdtv.com.

“RFD-TV is truly honored and excited to have Secretary Vilsack participate in the launch of Commodity Wrap,” stated Patrick Gottsch, founder & president of Rural Media Group, Inc., “We had an outstanding working relationship with Secretary Johanns’ administration in support of the Farm Bill forums, and we are so pleased to see USDA’s effort to communicate directly with rural America to solicit direct feedback from farmers and ranchers now being continued with Secretary Vilsack.”

March 2 will truly be a very historic day at Rural Media Group as Rural TV, the world’s first international channel dedicated to serving the needs and interests of rural people around the globe, will launch at noon (GMT) in the UK on SKY channel 279.
