"THE KING OF COWBOYS" - ROY ROGERS - THE LOST TAPES
RFD-TV Equestrian Nation Airs 2nd To Last Interview Recorded With Rogers Never Before Seen “Uncut” Footage

October 2, 2009—NASHVILLE, Tenn./FALLBROOK, Calif.—On October 7, 2009 at 12:30pm EST, Equestrian Nation on RFD-TV premieres one of the last ever conducted interviews with “The King Of Cowboys”, Roy Rogers. Hosted by Larry Mahan, Mahan interviews Rogers at the Roy Rogers Museum in Victorville, California back in May of 1992. The episode will also be repeated the same day at 10:30pm EST on RFD-TV.

Equestrian Nation airs the interview “uncut” with as much of the raw discussion as possible. In the episode, Rogers talks about his famous horse—Trigger, and the deep love they shared. He also talks about his view of the world, including politics and religion, and even talks about his first equine—a stubborn mule—and how he used to ride a horse to school and church. Rogers states he was lucky to live during the best time of all…”from the horse and buggy days, to putting a man on the moon.“

“Rogers did not do many interviews at all,” states Dan Weyand, Executive Producer of Equestrian Nation. “He only did this one because of his admiration for Larry Mahan. To have these two on screen—together--is about as legendary cowboy as it gets.”

Weyand continues:“We were digging through some old tape boxes and found the raw tapes from that day. The only footage anyone has ever seen, is in the short segment we put together on Rogers, so most of this has never been seen, and it’s a great interview.”

The only interview to be recorded after Mahan’s was with PBS back in 1994, two years after Mahan’s interview. Rogers passed away on July 6, 1998.

“As a kid growing up, I had an opportunity to slip off to the Saturday afternoon movies and see “The King of Cowboys,” Roy Rogers,” says Mahan. “He was such a wholesome guy… and a good guy. Right was right, wrong was wrong, and that’s what it was all about back in those days. In 1992, I was so fortunate to be able to sit down with Roy and do an indepth interview. We covered a lot of territory, and I’m honored to say, that on the next Equestrian Nation, you’re going to see the uncut, unedited raw footage of that interview with the Roy.”
