In The Bunkhouse
Has there ever been a time in our history when tradition and values meant more to Americans? The producers of “In the Bunkhouse” believe the answer to that question is never. “In the Bunkhouse” celebrates its inaugural season on RFD-TV beginning Wednesday, November 4—a half-hour cowboy music and talk show. “Cowboy Variety is one way to describe it,” says music legend and host, Red Steagall, “but I just think of this show as good, warm, comfort-food for America.” Indeed, “In the Bunkhouse” serves up the best in all things Cowboy, made fresh each week for RFD-TV viewers. Music, interviews, chuck wagon cooking, and even cowboy poetry are on this menu, and not even the finest diner or dive could serve up a meal this tasty if its tradition you’re hungry for.
“No other performer has done what Red has been able to do throughout his career, promoting the positive values of the working rancher,” says the publisher of “Cowboys & Indians Magazine” Gregory L. Brown. “He (Red) is a legend, a gentleman, pure and simple. And this show celebrates the values that so many people in this country have forgotten, or never learned. Red leads us, not backwards, but back to the future where hopefully honesty, integrity, and hard work once again rule the day. That is the spirit of the working rancher, and this vision is beautifully illustrated through Red’s songs and colorful poetry.”
Red plays as many as 100 rodeos per year. While performing at the 1974 National Rodeo Finals in Oklahoma City, Red discovered Reba McEntire. He brought her to Nashville, introduced her to friends and helped record her first demo tape. Touring at least 200 days annually for 30 years, Red has appeared in Europe, the Far East, South America, and the Middle East. In 1983, he performed for President Ronald Reagan in the White House.
Red became the first cowboy poet to be designated as Texas’ poet Laureate, and through the years more than 200 of his songs have been recorded by such big name artists as Dean Martin, Roy Clark, Ray Charles and Johnny Duncan.
“In the Bunkhouse” will play host to Red’s cast of radio characters: Badger, Danny, Leon and Jake who have been a part of Red’s critically acclaimed radio show “Cowboy Corner,” heard coast-to-coast on 165 radio stations for the past sixteen years. “Cowboy Corner” has more than 500,000 loyal weekly radio listeners and appears in print form in each edition of “Cowboys & Indians Magazine.”
RFD TV is proud to bring you each week, “In the Bunkhouse” with Red Steagall.
