There will be 5 qualifiers nationwide. We will be taking the top 5 finishers from each qualifier to the Semi-Finals at Mesquite the week prior to THE AMERICAN. Following are some key points that sum up the qualifiers:
Semi-Finals: Mesquite, Texas
The Semi-Finals will be held one week prior to THE AMERICAN at Mesquite Arena. This event will consist of 28 contestants (top 5 from each qualifier and top 3 from PRS standings). These individuals have already paid their $500 entry fee at the qualifiers, so there is no entry fee. These 28 contestants will be split into two performances: the first being Saturday night at 7:30PM and the second being Sunday afternoon at 2PM. After those 28 individuals ride in the performances, the top 5 in the average will solidify their spot in THE AMERICAN, along with the possibility of an exemption. The pay-out at the Semi-Finals will come from the other 25% of the $500 entry fee that the contestants paid at the qualifiers. There will be no round money paid, only average money.
Each event has the right of up to 2 exemptions per event chosen by THE AMERICAN selection committee. If two are selected there would be a match at Mesquite TX. If one is chosen he could compete at Mesquite or go directly to THE AMERICAN.
Exemptions would have to pay an entry fee. The top three in the PRS world standings will receive an invitation to move directly into the Semi-Finals at Mesquite.
THE AMERICAN will consist of the top 10 bareback riders and the top 10 bronc riders in the world free of entry fees, as well as, the 5, possibly 6, contestants that qualified through the Qualifiers and Semi-Finals (making a field of 16). THE AMERICAN will be two rounds. All 16 competitors will get on once, with the top 4, after that round, moving on to a shootout round that will determine the champion and reserve champion (one ride determination, not average on 2). The champion will win $100,000 and the reserve champion will win $25,000. In the case that the champion came from the "not" top-10, they will place themselves in a pot for their share of the $1,000,000.
Pro Roughstock Series rules apply (available upon request).
If a top 10 contestant declines their invitation to THE AMERICAN, that contestant is ineligible to compete at any of THE AMERICAN events.
If a top 3 PRS contestant wants to compete in the qualifying events post the PRS finals, he will no longer be eligible for exemption.
All contestants must wear "rodeo attire" at every AMERICAN event (Qualifier, Semi-Finals, and THE AMERICAN).
Any further rules that are not addressed will be resolved by the decision of THE AMERICAN committee.
Every contestant must pay the entry fee at each particular event before they can enter THE AMERICAN side-pot
In the case of a tie, the horses score will be the determining factor on who moves on.
If a top 3 PRS contestant qualifies for the Semi-finals prior to the PRS finals, their qualification spot will be given to the the top AMERICAN side-pot non-qualifier at that particular event.
