THE AMERICAN qualifiers will be being put on by United States Team Roping Championships or USTRC. Based in Stephenville, Texas, USTRC represents more than 35,000 members worldwide who enjoy the sport of team roping. Whether they engage in the sport professionally or recreationally these team ropers look to the USTRC to provide quality production and classification to ensure the best and most fair competition possible. Currently, the USTRC offers more than 85 sanctioned events and 300 affiliate events nationwide to help you get started on the road to exciting team roping action. Each year, the highlight of the team roping season are USTRC's seven regional finals and its National Finals of Team Roping, which combined offer more than $6 million in prize money and over a $1 million in prizes to its member ropers, one of the richest prize packages in equine and rodeo-related competition.
There will be 5 qualifiers nationwide. We will take the top ten finishers from each qualifier to the Semi-Finals at Mesquite the week prior to THE AMERICAN. Following are some key points that sum up the qualifiers:
Semi-Finals: Mesquite, Texas
The Semi-Finals will be held one week prior to the THE AMERICAN at Mesquite Arena. This event will consist of 50 teams (top 10 from each qualifier). These teams have already paid their $500 entry fee at the qualifiers, so there is no entry fee. These 50 teams will run two slack runs, and then the top 20 teams in the average after those two runs will be split into two performances for February 22nd and 23rd. The first of the two performances will be on Saturday at 7:30PMand the second will be Sunday at 2 PM (this is a shoot-out round, 1-run determination). After those 20 teams run in the performances, the top 5 teams from the shoot-out round will solidify their spot in the THE AMERICAN. There will also be the possibility of a 2 head exemption match (one head both performances) with the winner on 2 head qualifying for THE AMERICAN.
The pay-out at the Semi-Finals will come from the other 25% of the $500 entry fee that the contestants paid at the qualifiers. There will be no round money paid, only average money.
Every event has the right up to 2 exemptions that can be made by THE AMERICAN committee.
If two are selected there will be an exemption match between the two teams at the Semi-Finals in Mesquite. The winning team of this match wins an automatic bid into THE AMERICAN, making the field 16 teams.
If one team is selected they will be placed directly into THE AMERICAN
THE AMERICAN will consist of the top 10 team roping teams in the world free of entry fees, as well as, the 5 teams that qualified through the Qualifiers and Semi-Finals, and the Exemption Match winning team (making a field of 16). THE AMERICAN will be two runs. All 16 teams will have one run, with the top 4 teams after that run, moving on to a shootout round that will determine the champion and reserve champion (one run determination, not average on 2).
The champion will win $100,000 and the reserve champion will win $25,000. In the case that the champion came from the "not" top-10, they will place themselves in a pot for their share of the $1,000,000.
All USTRC rules apply.(May be viewed upon request)
No age or gender requirement.
A top 10 contestant may compete at the qualifiers on the opposite end of their top 10 qualification
A team may not qualify twice. An individual contestant may qualify for the Semi-Finals twice, but must be with a different partner. If an individual qualifies twice for THE AMERICAN, he/she must choose a partner from their two qualifications, however; his/her partner with the team he/she does not choose to compete in THE AMERICAN with has the right to choose an alternative partner.
Team roping teams will be invited as a team. If a top 10 team chooses to decline their invitation, they will not be allowed to rope at the qualifiers with anyone else. Top 10 teams are not allowed to go to qualifiers.
If an event has under 50 teams, THE AMERICAN committee may limit the number of qualification spots given at that particular event to 5.
All contestants must wear "rodeo attire" at every AMERICAN event (Qualifier, Semi-Finals, and THE AMERICAN).
Any further rules that are not addressed will be resolved by the decision of THE AMERICAN committee and USTRC.
Every contestant must pay the entry fee at each particular event before they can enter THE AMERICAN side-pot.
THE AMERICAN has final say.
