Editor / Producer

Role and Responsibilities:

The role of the Editor/Producer is an essential role for RFD-TV. Your most important contribution to the team is “creating the projects”. This includes working with producers to understand project expectations and delivering on those expectations. RFD-TV Editors/Producers work in Final Cut Pro and After Effects. Editor/Producers work from script documents to create quality video. This position will also assist with LIVE television productions, as needed.

• Candidates must be proficient in Final Cut Pro, After Effects and Photoshop.

• Familiar with both SD and HD formats.

• Creates shows/promo/spots, based on input from client/team.

• Interacts professionally with external and internal clients.

• Gain an understanding of projects and give input for creative solutions.

• Offer innovative or creative ideas that add value to video projects.

• Seeking input and consensus to problems, to assure deadlines and creative goals are met.

• Video projects created from script specifications (provided by client/created by you) or general notes.

• Ability to upload video projects for approvals by remote supervisors.

• Video file exports in all formats.

• Create DVD’s with menu functionality, as well as able to compress videos for DVD/web, in all formats and resolutions.

• Multi-task effectively, working quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment.

• Candidate must be organized, detailed and have excellent communication skills.

• May be required to assist with LIVE television shows in various aspects of production (ie., switching, cameras, etc.).

• Must have a good work ethic with strong problem solving skills.

• Must write scripts effectively/creatively.

• Ability to demonstrate a high level of creativity under tight deadlines.

• May be responsible for other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications, Education and Required/Preferred Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in digital media, graphic design, broadcasting, radio/TV/film or equivalent work experience required.

• Minimum of three (3) years relevant experience preferred.

• Thorough knowledge of:

o Both PC/MAC platforms.

o Basic editing, importing, renaming and organizing clips.

o Key framing motion, color and graphics.

o The use of transitions, effects and filters.

o Compositing with different backgrounds and images.

o Primatte filter for keying.

o Audio editing and mixing.

o Exporting files in all formats and resolutions.

o Key out video, using ColorKey and KeyLight.

o Compressor and DVD Studio Pro.

o Providing high quality compression while keeping the file sizes small.

o Creating looping DVD.

o Creating DVDs with multiple tracks and menus/sub-menus.

o Creating Alpha Channels with logos and images, as well as DVD menu backgrounds.

• Must have a strong work ethic and positive attitude; with the ability to handle multiprojects with strict deadlines.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required, especially spelling and grammar.

• Knowledge of RFD-TV’s rural programming, a plus!

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with limited supervision and high-pressure environment, essential.

• Chyron experience helpful. 

Physical Requirements:

• Dexterity to operate video editing equipment, telephones, computer, etc.

• Ability to communicate effectively, in an office setting.

• Hearing tapes, telephones, radios, etc.

• Ability to lift 50 pounds of gear.

Management reserves the right to add, change/revise this job description at any time.

Normal Hours: M-F, from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., overtime as needed.
