RFD-TV, which focuses on rural America, is reaching straight into the heart of its core viewing audience with a long celebration of Roy Rogers -- "The King of the Cowboys," who was married to Dale Evans.

Rogers, a radio, movie and TV presence for 50 years, would have turned 100 this Saturday, Nov. 5. To honor the centennial of his birth, RFD-TV will kick off a two-month-long celebration beginning Saturday with a one-hour concert (beginning at 8:30 p.m.) from Apple Valley, Calif., Rogers' hometown. The concert will feature Rogers' son, Dusty Rogers, Roy's grandson, Dustin Rogers, and their band, The High Riders.

RFD will also air Roy Rogers tributes from many country-and-western stars each week, along with episodes of "The Roy Rogers Show" -- which aired on NBC from 1951-57 -- and many of Rogers' big-screen movies.

It all culminates Jan. 2 when RFD honors Rogers with a grand finale float in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif. The parade airs live on RFD, beginning at 10 a.m. with a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Rogers "Happy Trails" float -- which includes Rogers' beloved horse, Trigger, and German Shepherd, Bullet (both stuffed years ago). Roy Rogers Jr. will also be on the float along with Dustin Rogers (they're not stuffed).

Rogers (who was born Leonard Slye) died in 1998 at the age of 86; Evans passed away in 2001 (in Apple Valley) at the age of 88.

RFD airs on Verizon FIOS (Ch. 247), DirecTV (Ch. 345) and Dish Network (Ch. 231).
