President Obama Wraps Up His Tour in Alpha, Illinois
August 19, 2011 | Andrew Kerr
President Obama finished his three-day Midwest Tour at the Country Corner Farm in Alpha, Illinois on Wednesday. Obama traveling to the state where he had once held a senate seat spoke in front of about 300 people at a town hall meeting. Addressing agricultural issues Obama said the government could pass trade deals that are supported by both businesses and the UAW. “That doesn’t happen very often. And the reason is, is because folks know that not only is that good for agricultural America - opening up markets, because we’ve got the best farmers in the world.” While Obama addressed economic concerns he also tried to stay upbeat. “And so despite the fact that we’ve gone through tough times, I want everybody to remember we still have the best universities on Earth, the best workers on Earth, the best entrepreneurs on Earth, the best system on Earth,” Obama said. “There’s not a country in the world that wouldn’t trade places with the United States of America.” »Click here for day one coverage »Click here for day two coverage
