The Cattle Show
Once upon a time there was a girl who loved being outside. She lived to breath the fresh air and run wild Oacross the pastures. She would lie for hours watching the clouds and would roll down the hills, climb the trees and play in the fall leaves. As the years passed she moved to the city and learned the ways of adulthood, giving up the carefree days of her youth.

Or did she?

Don’t think so. Her love of the simpler life was always there, deep inside. And every once in a while, whenever she could escape, she returned to the freedom of country life. Welcome to an inside look at The Cattle Show.

My name is L.Z. and I’m the Executive Producer of this half-hour weekly television program. The Cattle Show was created as a way to take me back to my carefree childhood days and as a way to give recognition to those individuals that I admire most, the ranchers. There is no one I have greater respect for. These folks know what real work is. They do it day in and day out, no matter the weather conditions. It’s in their souls. As caretakers of this land, they take pride in their jobs, waking often before the rest of the world is even stirring and coming back home after the sun has set.

My show allows me to journey to different ranches across the nation, visiting with country people who welcome me into their life and share their knowledge. I have been around horses and cattle most of my life, working with them in different aspects. From pleasure riding to working with a trainer toward competition, from bottle calves that my children have enjoyed feeding, to building a seed stock operation. Livestock is a way of life for me.

I live on a small ranch never knowing what creature my children will bring home next. It’s not unusual for me to find them carrying around anything from a chicken to a pig. We live a country life. Instead of buying eggs from the store, my girls go to the chicken coop and gather the eggs. Friends of my girls who visit often marvel at the everyday occurrences in our lives. I am determined to keep my family connected to each other and to the values that country life supports.

As I mentioned earlier, I lived in the city for many years, but it never felt like home. After having my first child, I knew that I wanted to return to my roots. I wanted to be near my extended family. I actually bought land next to my folks. All of my siblings felt the same way and we have now all returned. Our ranches are connected and we share our lives, our families and our love.

The episodes you watch on The Cattle Show are inspired by viewers like you who take the time to write and tell me about your experi- ences with a certain breed or perhaps you need more information on a cattle related topic. The Cattle Show brings the experienced rancher’s years of effort and experience to those who might be considering starting a herd. It is also designed to be educational, showcasing products or procedures and explaining various marketing concepts.

Our goal is to touch on every aspect of the cattle industry and dig deeper into those special interests that the viewers request.

The show is here to serve as a research tool, by getting the experts involved and showing you the different breeds. If its cattle-related and you want to know about it, write to me and I’ll find it for you.
