Professional and Working Cowboys Compete for the Extreme Cowboy Race Title!
The newest season of the 'Extreme Cowboy Race' pushes the limits, pairing the working cowboys against the professionals in an all-new race starting September 3rd.
The new season, 'Extreme Cowboy Race #5,' returns to Craig Cameron's Double Horn Ranch in Bluff Dale, Texas. It's time to go back to the heart of the race. Fifteen competitors were invited to the ranch in Bluff Dale to compete.
Among some of the notable cowboys last season were Extreme Cowboy Race champion, James Chico. First season's champion, Thomas Saunders, and PBR Champion Ty Murray were also on the guest list.
This season we have a well rounded group, we even have a pony in the race this year. the race was shot in February, the riders not only had to focus on their times and horsemanship but they and their horses had to battle cold winter weather while they were preparing for the race.
'The course is new for everyone involved,' said Ryan Dohrn, HorseCity.com general manager. 'The winners from Sacramento are now in a ranch setting and there are a few new faces mixed in with the cowboys and cowgirls. As always, there is a new twist to everyone's favorite obstacles as well as a couple new ones thrown in there.'
Some of the favorite obstacles such as the famous Texas Three-Step, log drag and varieties of jumps were included, but Cameron decided to bring in some new ones that challenged the riders like never before. All we can say is you gotta see it to believe it!
The 'Extreme Cowboy Race' is a timed race with obstacles designed to not only push horse and rider out of their traditional comfort zone, but also test the communication and horsemanship of each team. Judges award points based on a set of five criteria: 1. Horsemanship, 2. Cadence, 3. Control, 4. Horse's attitude, and 5. Overall execution. The first round of competition features 15 horse-and-rider teams. The top eight competitors move on to Round 2 for another set of competition. The top four competitors then advance to Round 3 for an all-out race to the finish and the title of 'Extreme Cowboy.'
The 'Extreme Cowboy Race' spans 15, 30-minute episodes with each episode featuring four horse-and-rider teams as they complete the various rounds. The new season will begin Monday, September 3rd, on RFD-TV with new episodes premiering each week. Each episode will also be available on HorseCity.com to view by those who do not get RFD-TV. Also, this season all of the Extreme Cowboy Race shows will be available after the RFDTV premier on HorseCity.com. Our new video platform allows for some of the clearest video streaming possible on the internet.
