Gospel Sampler
Producers Stan Hitchcock and Bob Bilyeu searched Arkansas and Missouri for historic country churches in which to film some of the top names in gospel music. A favorite shooting location was the 143 year-old Cave Springs Community Church, located just outside of Willard, Missouri. When Stan and Bob first came upon the church, the sanctuary had fallen into disrepair and was rarely used because of steep steps to access the entrance. An arrangement was made with the church deacons that repairs would be made to the historic building in return for the ability to shoot the gospel performances. A plus for the church was that it became host to some of the classic names in gospel music, and its members had front row seats. The Gospel Sampler gathers together the very best of the performances shot in a number of different historic country churches. Viewers enjoy a range of genres from contemporary and quartets to Bluegrass and old-time country gospel. Many of the segments were originally produced in the 1990’s so they contain rare performances from artists that have passed on such as JD Sumner of the Stamps Quartet, Pop Lewis of The Lewis Family and Speedy Haworth of The Goodwill Trio. Each week the Gospel Sampler offers up musical performances from three to four different groups. Contact: Stan Hitchcock 111 Shivel Drive Hendersonville, TN 37075
