Sheep Dog Trials and the Kiwi way of life go hand-in-hand, so RFD-TV brings you full coverage of New Zealand Sheep Dog Trials 2010. 

Following on from the successful coverage of the Pio Pio Sheep Dog Trials in New Zealand’s King Country.  This steep and rough country  in the centre of the North Island, is perfect country for raising sheep and beef on New Zealand’s generous pasture.  It’s also perfect country for working dogs as they range across the steep terrain herding in sheep.

A few months later, in the heart of the New Zealand winter, the TV cameras were on hand to capture some of the most talented dogs and their owners at the North and South Island Championships, and then the National Championships in the deep south of the South Island at Gore.

Over 150 competitors entered into each event.  Our cameras captured the cream of the crop on Country99TV, as dogs stalked and herded sheep under the skilful direction of owners communicating with their canine charges using only their sharp whistles to give commands to their dogs.

It’s a brilliant display of man working with his best friend.
