Rural Radio: Board Operator/On-Air Talent/Producer

 

Role and Responsibilities

Works with Show Host to identify program topics and material for assigned radio shows.
Research, prepare and create agriculture-based/rural America topical shows by gathering information from various sources, periodicals, computer and television, internet, social media, rural organization contacts, etc. and recruit studio guests and/or guests via phone or on-location for the assigned radio shows in order to provide listeners with compelling, entertaining and informative broadcasts.
Write scripts and interview questions.
Work with radio producing team to be certain that all aspects of the show stories are developed to maximum potential.
Interface with the Show Host/Hosts to be certain that the Hosts fully understand the objective for each show and the program elements involved in that show.
Capable of memorizing content, naturally delivering ad-libs to identify station, introduce and close shows, and announce station breaks, commercials, or public service information as directed up upline supervisor.
Interview guests and moderate panel or discussion show to entertain audience.
Record interviews of guests, topic-knowledgeable or public personalities, and edit interviews.
Answer phone lines and interview members of listening audience who telephone musical requests.
Work with the technical staff, traffic department, and sales department to conform to all established guidelines for the broadcast and to achieve the company's goals.
Some on-location responsibilities & broadcasts as scheduled by the station or requested by clients possible with live reports from site of event.
Sets up equipment for broadcasts and promotions at station remotes.
Ensures logged commercials, promotions, sweepers and any other programming element essential to the station's operations are aired, working in liaison with Traffic Coordinator.
Operates control console.
Performs commercial production.
Air contests according to the specifications of the program director.
Interface with the Rural TV/Family Net Production Staff for brainstorming ideas.
Maintain and build a positive cooperative attitude within the station and a strong personal community involvement.
Conforms with company policies as to broadcast content and organizational budget and enforces FCC regulations, station and company policies, including implementing station's / state's EAS procedures.
Understanding of NexGen system preferred, but not required.
Performs additional duties as directed.
Reports to the radio General Manager.
 

 

Qualifications, Education and Skill Requirements

 

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school & minimum of three years or related experience.
Must have at least 2 years on-air experience.
Excellent leadership, interpersonal and time management skills.
Strong command of verbal and written skills.
Must be able to operate modern, digital radio broadcast equipment.
Must be able to coach and motivate
Must be able to work well under pressure and have the ability to multi-task.
Some travel might be required.
Knowledge of Agriculture/Agri-Business preferred.
Perform other duties as may be assigned
 

 

Schedule

Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (hour lunch).  Extended hours may be required, including weekends/nights.
