1. President visits California drought areas

President Barack Obama visited California Friday for a briefing on the state's severe drought.

His administration also announced more resources for the state, including directing the USDA to make implementing the livestock disaster assistance programs of the Agriculture Act of 2014 a priority.

Fifty four counties have been declared primary natural disaster areas by the USDA.

"California has a long, long way to go to get back to normal," U.S. Drought Monitor officials said in a National Drought Summary on Feb. 11.

Updated Drought Monitor maps are released each Thursday.

2. Agricultural Outlook Forum

Agriculture industry leaders are looking ahead to the first release of data from the 2012 Census of Agriculture.

Chief Economist Joseph Glauber will also give the Outlook for US Agriculture in 2014.

It will be one of the main events during the Agricultural Outlook Forum from Feb. 20-21 in Washington, D.C.

Other panelists will cover topics related to the census, including the changing demographics, overall highlights, and financial foundation of agriculture.

3. The American semi-finals in Mesquite

The semi-finals for RFD-TV's The American are Feb. 22 and 23.

Hitch teams will also compete at the Gentle Giants $100,000 Invitational.

Rodeo events include bareback riding, barrel racing, bull riding, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping and tie-down roping.

It's all leading up to the richest one-day rodeo in history, The American, presented by Polaris Ranger, on March 2 in Arlington, Texas.
