Check out what Steve has to say about his RURAL RADIO lifestyle.
Q: What do you like most about hosting on RURAL RADIO?
A: Rural Radio has created a unique opportunity both through “Western Sports Roundup” and our live rodeo broadcasts to reach an audience that's always wanted more coverage of western sports. We are helping to create a new avenue for those events to get coverage and for the fans of those events to be able to see and hear their favorite events like never before.
Q: How did you get your start in Radio/TV?
A: The local AM radio station in Klamath Falls, Oregon, KAGO gave me my first job in 1978 when I was 18. I started on the air playing records. They gave me my first shot doing a play-by-play for high school and American Legion football, basketball and baseball. The rest is history.
Q: What was your favorite episode or guest of the first radio season?
A: Renowned horse trainer Monty Roberts, talking about his Horses for Heroes program and the way he is able to help our veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress by introducing them to horses...And of course all of our live play-by-play broadcasts of professional rodeos and the PBR Finals.
Q: What can listeners look forward to in the next year on your show?
A: We want to try to continue to grow “Western Sports Roundup” to include more news and information about Western sports and the things Western sports fans enjoy. We will continue to provide the most complete live coverage of rodeos and related events in the history of the media...no one has ever broadcast as many events live as we are right now.
We had to ask some fun questions too.
Q: Favorite food?
A: I'm pretty boring…Bacon cheeseburger and fries
Q: Favorite vacation spot?
A: The Oregon Coast
Q: What’s your favorite thing about summer?
A: I'm at a rodeo surrounded by friends and people I admire every weekend.
Q: I can’t help but turn up the radio when some great classic rock and roll comes on.
