Barrel Racer Trula Churchill
Valentine, Nebraska cowgirl Trula Churchill will make her first appearance on RFD-TV's THE AMERICAN rodeo stage thanks to her trusty mount, A Streak Of Rita, aka “Worm.” Churchill and the 10-year-old roan gelding teamed up to win round nine and finish eighth in the aggregate at the recent National Finals Rodeo. Her NFR earnings of $66,202 moved her up from 13th to eighth in the final world standings with $142,076, which gave Churchill the chance at an AMERICAN invite as a top-10 ranked Women’s Professional Rodeo Association barrel racer.
“It’s an awesome opportunity and I really like the way they’ve given everybody an chance to qualify for such a high paying rodeo through the qualification system,” says Churchill. “Last year my husband, Linn, qualified to compete in the steer wrestling at the semifinals in Mesquite and although I was up at another rodeo at the time, I tuned in on Sirius Radio to listen to the finals since it was so new and innovative and I had so many friends that were competing there.”
Arlington definitely won’t be the only stop on Churchill’s busy rodeo schedule during that week. She and Worm are slated to run at the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo, the Champions Challenge in Florida and are hoping for a short round qualification in San Angelo during roughly the same time frame.
“It could be a pretty crazy week!” says the veteran barrel racer, who relies on help and support from her husband, Linn, to help her make all the stops.
Churchill’s winter run gets started the week of January 19th in Denver, after which she’ll head to the Stock Show in Rapid City, S.D. before venturing south from her home in the Sandhills of Nebraska for an extended stay in Texas. Churchill thanked her sponsors Cruel Girl/Cinch Team, Dubas Trailers, Cold-Flex, Cactus Gear, Equi-Winner and Blood Tribe Agricultural Projects for helping her get up and down the road.
