Top Story: Gov. Bobby Jindal on RURAL TOWN HALL

July 23, 2015

NASHVILLE, Tenn (RFD-TV) – The presidential election is 16-months away and the field of candidates is extensive and varied. But while the conversation on the campaign trail rarely turns to rural America, RFD-TV has stepped forward to change that with the premier of RURAL TOWN HALL. The one-hour prime-time special premiered with 2016 presidential nominee Gov. Bobby Jindal on Thursday, July 23.

Hosted by RFD-TV’s Mark Oppold, RURAL TOWN HALL participants included constituents from agricultural non-profits and organizations such as the AARP, Iowa Pork Producers, the American Soybean Association, Louisiana Farm Bureau, Growth Energy, FFA, 4-H, farmers and ranchers.

In introducing Gov. Jindal to the crowd, Oppold referenced the governor’s public service record – in particular his healthcare experience. Gov. Jindal served as the Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals and Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. With that background, Gov. Jindal addressed rural health care concerns to the crowd.

“A lot of hospitals are saying, ‘Look, we see a lot of demand for emergency care and less of a demand for the inpatient beds,’” said Gov. Jindal. “So we need to find a way to change these programs to continue to help hospitals. We need to do more to bring and keep rural healthcare providers in these communities as well.”

RURAL TOWN HALL premieres Thursday, July 23rd at 10 PM ET on RFD-TV with re-airs on Friday, July 24th at 5 PM ET, Monday, July 27th at 8 PM ET, and Tuesday, July 28th at 12 AM ET.  RURAL RADIO on SiriusXM Channel 80 will also run the show on Friday, July 24th at 7 AM and 4PM ET,  Monday July 27th at 8 PM ET, and Tuesday, July 28th at 1 AM ET.
