Cruz Discusses the Government's Role in Crop Insurance

September 29, 2015

NASHVILLE, Tenn (RFD-TV) – During RFD-TV’s RURAL TOWN HALL, members of Agri-Pulse were in attendance to discuss rural issues with 2016 presidential candidate Senator Ted Cruz. The Agri-Pulse representative, Frank Holdmeyer posed the following question:

“Do you support crop insurance as a risk management tool,” asked Holdmeyer “if so, should there be some sort of means test to limit subsides for large farmers?”

“You know, I do think there is an important federal role in crop insurance, and there’s been a historic role in doing that.” stated Cruz. “I think we should get the federal government out of the business of setting the price and let the market operate. That will expand competition and drive down prices.”

Watch Senator Cruz’s complete answer in the video above and see how he addresses other issues important to rural Americans on RURAL TOWN HALL.
