Farewell to Joey Feek

Farewell to Joey Feek

Joey + Rory Joey + Rory

We have a heartbreaking update on Joey Feek’s cancer battle: Rory Feek of the husband and wife country duo Joey + Rory says his wife has passed away. She took her last breath surrounded by the people she loves the most. Moments and memories captured at their Hardison Mill farm in Tennessee will be cherished forever.

"My wife’s greatest dream came true today," wrote Feek on his blog ThisLifeILive.com.  "She is in Heaven.  The cancer is gone, the pain has ceased and all her tears are dry.  Joey is in the arms of her beloved brother Justin and using her pretty voice to sing for her savior.

"At 2:30 this afternoon, as we were gathered around her, holding hands and praying.. my precious bride breathed her last.  And a moment later took her first breath on the other side."

Joey had undergone surgery in 2015 to treat her cervical cancer, but the treatment proved unsuccessful. Joey was put in the care of hospice in early November. At that time, Rory wrote on his blog: “Most of Joey’s immune system is gone now and she’s thin and frail. Where she once jumped out of bed before the sun rose to rush out to her garden… she now quietly sleeps away most of the day.”

In 2008, Joey + Rory were finalists on the television show “Can You Duet?,” and went on to land a record deal with Vanguard/Sugar Hill records. The couple won an award from the Academy of Country Music for Top New Vocal Duo in 2010.

The lyrics and music video for their 2012 song “When I'm Gone” paint a picture of the future, in which Joey's voice offers comfort and reassurance to Rory, letting him know that everything would be okay when this day finally came. "When I'm Gone" is included on their final album, Hymns That Are Important To Us which came out in February.

Joey + Rory’s success is a true American love story that has been gaining the hearts of fans ever since their first duet. Joey's connection with those fans lives on through her heartfelt voice. She was 40 years old.

Our RFD-TV family sends up our thoughts and prayers to Joey, Rory and their entire family.
