Joey Feek Remembered in Services

March 14, 2016

Video story provided by NBC's Dave MacAnally.

Fans and friends of country artist Joey Feek got their chance to say goodbye Sunday in the singer's hometown of Alexandria, Indiana.  Feek passed away March 4th after battling cervical cancer.  Hundreds of people gathered at Alexandria-Monroe High School.

Alexandria Monroe high school was a big part of Jody Feek's life.  And she lives on here. Folks from all walks of life, to honor one of their own.  Gospel great Bill Gaither produced the tribute on what he called a good day. And thank Joey Feeks Alexandria parents.

"Thanks to you for bringing this sweet spirit into this world. And giving us a chance to share it with you."

Joey's husband Rory and their little girl Indiana received Joey's high school basketball letter jacket. And music videos told the story of a family's love.

Rory Feek said "Joey showed me that love every day. 1000 times a day and little ways and when you get to experience it and you know you do not deserve it, something bigger than you takes over inside you and you start to give it."

Joey's sister Jodi Martin thanked Rory for bringing her back to Indiana so they could be together. Jody nursed her sister.

"Joey has taught me so much about myself. About love, about living and about sacrifice. So thank you Rory."

Just days prior, Joey was laid to rest at her home in Tennessee.  Rory Feek shared images and his thoughts on his blog ThisLifeILive.com.

"And when my time was through and I thought I couldn’t cry anymore tears," wrote Feek, "they played a video celebrating Joey’s life that our friends Daniel and Gabe made.  And my tears were replaced by smiles and laughter and joy and more tears.   It was so beautiful, set to the song “After You’re Gone” by Iris Dement… a song that Joey loved and requested be played at her service."
