NASHVILLE, Tenn (RFD-TV) Singer Glen Campbell celebrates his 80th birthday today.

In a career spanning five decades, Campbell has scored numerous hits as both a country and a pop artist, including “Gentle on My Mind,” “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” “Wichita Lineman,” “Glaveston,” “Rhinestone Cowboy,” and “Southern Nights.” In his early days, he was a session musician affiliated with LA’s renowned “Wrecking Crew,” and for a few months, in late 1964 through early 1965, he even toured with the Beach Boys as Brian Wilson’s stand-in on bass guitar. And his talent isn't limited to music: his film credits include “True Grit,” “Norwood,” and “Any Which Way You Can.”

In recent years, the singer has waged a very public and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. After announcing his diagnosis, the singer conducted a final and much-celebrated “Goodbye Tour” in 2012. He was recently honored with a “Career Achievement Award” by the Academy of Country Music.
