Big Stars Play the Big Stage

Charlie Daniels at CMA Music Festival Charlie Daniels at CMA Music Festival

June 10, 2016

Nashville, TN

The first night of headliners for Nashville's CMA Music Festival performed at Nissan Stadium last night.

The Oak Ridge Boys opened up the night with "The Star-Spangled Banner."

Then the sun set on The Charlie Daniel's Band as the classic country singer rocked the fiddle -- playing fan favorites like "The Devil Went Down to Georgia." He also brought country music legend, Randy Travis to the stage and the crowd responded with a standing ovation. After having a stroke in 2013, Travis has yet to regain his speech.

Popular country artists Kelsea Ballerini, Dierks Bentley, Miranda Lambert, and Rascal Flatts filled the arena with heartfelt ballads and party anthems that had the audience on their feet.

Jason Aldean closed out the show, but he took longer to appear on stage than anticipated. He started his performance at 11:40: ten minutes after the concert was supposed to end. Aldean began the final set of the night with an apology for his tardiness. But he quickly exclaimed, "The good parties don't start until after midnight anyway!"

To Aldean's point, CMA Music Festival is certainly a party. Check out our full gallery of the Thursday night performances!
