The Trans-Pacific Partnership is a trade deal that many agriculture supporters say is crucial to ag trade and America's ag economy. The top U.S. Trade Official says the debate and controversy over the pending trade agreement is more contentious than some had expected.

Although the trade agreement was signed in February 2016, the agreement has yet to be submitted to U.S. Congress, which triggers a countdown to a vote on the agreement.

The TPP is also a big sticking point during this election season. Presumptive GOP Presidential Nominee Donald Trump says he would cancel the pending trade deal if elected.

And while initially supporting the plan in its infancy, Democratic Front-Runner Hillary Clinton is now backtracking and questions some of its proposed merits. Democrat Bernie Sanders has also been a very vocal opponent of the trade deal.
