What's a Farrier?

Farriers work with horses. Farriers work with horses.

Farriers play an integral role in any horse owner’s life, although it is a profession that the rest of us may not hear too much about.

As most people are aware, domestic horses need horseshoes in order to keep their feet in good condition. A farrier combines some of the skills of a veterinarian with those of a blacksmith.  Responsibilities include removing old horseshoes, caring for horses’s feet by watching for diseased hooves, trimming and cleaning hooves, etc., and making and fitting new horseshoes.

July 11-16, 2016 celebrates National Farrier Week and we want to salute our farriers who keep horses moving every day!
