Rodeo is in Shelby Rassmussen's blood.  She's the daughter of RURAL RADIO Chanel 147 host and PBR clown Flint Rasmussen.  But she's earned her own place in the rodeo world.  Shelby is the president of NHSRA, and she currently ranks 8th at the High School Rodeo Finals in barrel racing.

As she concludes her year as NHSRA President, she has advice for students considering to run for an NHSRA national office. "You gotta get out of your comfort zone," she says. "You won't regret it." The rising senior said that she has learned to do many things, including how to run meetings and meet people.

Many students will compete in the NHSRA Finals Rodeo, but few will win. Shelby says that anyone can be a winner if they, "Keep your chin up and have a positive attitude."

You can listen to a full interview with Shelby on Outside the Barrel, July 22 at 5 PM ET on RURAL RADIO Channel 147 on SiriusXM
