Renae Johnson is loved for her role as Renae the Waitress on “Larry’s Country Diner.” Now fans can read her latest book, “Precious Memories Memorial.” The idea for this book arose when Johnson tragically lost her 28-year-old son.  “It wasn’t until our son was killed in 2008 that I felt comfortable with the idea of visiting cemeteries and researching deaths and funerals,” Johnson said. “It suddenly felt very familiar. My research actually started with a broom, flowers, and a list of names. I knew from my son’s passing that some cemeteries do not keep the headstones clean and fresh with flowers. So that became my mission: to honor and pay respect to their memory. Not their deaths, but their lives and their music.”

Over 80 country stars are covered in the book and Johnson visited over 14 of them in Nashville and surrounding areas. Her husband, a photographer for “Larry’s Country Diner,” came along on the journey and was there to support her when the process became discouraging.  “Looking out over seas of headstones can be pretty intimidating," Johnson explained. "At times it feels like you are looking for a needle in a haystack. Even if the cemetery hands you a map, there are usually no real directions to the exact. That is why I included a detailed map with highlighted directions.”

Although she highlights 80 stars, she says that each one is unique. “Each gravesite seemed to have its own story. And each one was hard to leave. They seemed to draw you back with a flood of memories.”

For Johnson, the saddest story she covered was Joey Feek after watching her lose her battle with cancer earlier in 2016.

She hopes that “Precious Memories Memorial” touches readers’ lives. “I hope it is a book that makes readers feel close to the legends that touched their lives. Reverence, honor, and love are what I hope jumps off the pages and makes each person glad they own this precious book of memories.”

Fans can order "Precious Memories Memorial" on Johnson's website.

Johnson has another book on the horizon as well. She is working with her daughter Chi Johnson Lopes to write “Touring with a Beatle,” highlighting Lopes’ experiences as a dancer on tour with Paul McCartney for three years.

Johnson has been a part of the cast of the show “Larry’s Country Diner” since before it was even written down. “Larry walked into my office and shared his idea for a new show and we birthed it," she said. "He has always thrown ideas at me but this one was a whopper. When he included me with the cast of characters, I didn’t even think twice about it.  Mainly because anything he comes up with is usually fun.”

Larry keeps her busy with serving the studio audience, but her favorite part is getting to “smart mouth” Larry and meet fans. She notes the fact that nothing in the series is scripted so she doesn't even know what is going to happen.
