NASHVILLE, Tenn (RFD-TV) Students launch pumpkins into the air with catapults, all in the name of learning. High school teams outside Buffalo, New York competed in distance and accuracy competitions at their local pumpkin farm. The students used a type of catapult called a trebuchet to launch pumpkins to their desired targets. Through this fun and messy experience, students were able to learn valuable math, science and life skills- like working together easy as pie.
“It teaches them camaraderie is one thing. They have to work together. They have to learn how to work as a team. That’s pretty important. All of the qualifications for these trebuchets are measurements, they’re calculations that these kids gotta come up with to make this work right. A pumpkin is not perfect so every pumpkin is different. They have to throw one pumpkin perfect.”
The winning launch for the distance category sent a pumpkin sailing an impressive 483 feet!
