Degrees and New Leadership

Degrees and New Leadership

October 22, 2016

The final day of the 89th National FFA Convention & Expo centered around two main events.  The degree ceremony and the final session.  In the morning, degrees were handed out at Lucas Oil Stadium.  Family and friends attended the event and the atmosphere was similar to a high school graduation with photos, hugs between friends and an overwhelming sense of pride that permeated the entire stadium.  Those receiving degrees inspired the delegates in the stands and there was talk of "next year" in the concourse.

The afternoon was reserved for the final session. And while the degree ceremony was more reserved, it was a party atmosphere in Bankers Life Fieldhouse.  Pounding house music had the delegates dancing on the floor and in their seats.  Once the session opened, the delegates celebrated their achievements with awards in the Career Development Events.  Outgoing president Taylor McNeel gave her last address to the FFA and told delegates, "don't follow your heart; lead with it."

With that message she was ready to pass the torch to the new officers for the 2016/2017 season.  The newly elected officers were overcome with emotion as they took the stage.  The crowd roared their approval as the gavel made it official.
