Weeds resistant to PPO inhibiting herbicide are spreading at a faster rate than weed scientists expected. Waterhemp, one of the most problematic weeds in the Midwest, has been identified as resistant to PPO-inhibiting herbicides in several Midwestern states, and Palmer amaranth, a weed indigenous to the desert southwest, has reported cases of resistance in Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Missouri and, most recently, in Illinois.
PPO-inhibiting herbicides have been the go-to option to control glyphosate-resistant weeds and proper stewardship is necessary to keep this herbicide group viable long term. Dr. Bryan Young, Professor of Weed Science from Purdue University will be joined by FMC technical representatives Nick Hustedde and Matthew Wiggins to talk about what PPO resistance means for your fields and what stewardships you can employ to can keep PPO-inhibiting herbicides effective in the long-term.
