Dottie Pyrtle

Meet Dottie Pyrtle, a FarmHer from Kernersville, North Carolina. Dottie has a love of horses, the land, and she loves to create. She gives new life to discarded pieces of metal by creating works of art in her shop at Summer Oaks Craftworks. Besides metal working, Dottie also shows her love of horses by running a boarding facility.

When she is not working with metal or horses, Dottie spends her time working with her hügelkultur beds. Hugelkultur is a composting process where raised beds are constructed from decaying wood debris and other compostable biomass plant materials. This process is assists in improving soil fertility, water retention, and soil warming, thus benefiting plants grown on or near such mounds. She uses the food she harvests for their own consumption and also sells it at a roadside stand.
