RFD-TV Team Enjoys Total Eclipse

RFD-TV Team Enjoys Total Eclipse

August 21, 2017

The RFD-TV team took time from their busy day to enjoy the total solar eclipse atop the roof of the Music Row office in Nashville. At approximately 1:27 PM CT, Nashville experienced the total eclipse and employees captured the historic moment on their cell phones. Co-workers remarked on the muted changes in light, the drop in temperature and heard insects begin their whirring typically reserved for evening. Totality lasted over two minutes and you can see for yourself the drastic difference during that time.

While the general hype has been building for weeks now, some astronomy buffs have been anticipating this event for years, even decades.  And what did people need to look for in the eclipse? Our meteorologist, Tim Ross, gave us the scoop. One roadside store owner in rural Georgia even claimed to have “alien goats” and his theory about could happen to them come eclipse day.

Staff Feedback and Comments:

"I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to experience such an interesting and scientific event with my family, especially my 5-year-old and 2-year-old. My 5-year-old learned about the Corona and my 2-year-old kept saying "Look, it's the eclipse!"  We had friends visiting from Lexington, KY and Sydney, Australia, so it was good to see them as well. While I'm generally skeptical of such events ... experiencing darkness, streetlights, the cicadas and crickets were pretty cool." - Billy Frey, RFD-TV's Chief Marketing Officer

"It was a fun experience! I think dusk is pretty and that's the shade of darkness the eclipse gave us. Plus, having everyone out on the roof taking a short break from work reminded me of science field trips in school." -Katie Farritor, RFD-TV Coordinating Producer

"It is one of those take-your-breath-away moments. You know what it is going to look like, but experiencing it is unexplainable awe!" - Mike Sacci, Ingest

"It was a great time! It was so weird and felt almost unnatural, but it was definitely one of the most awesome experiences I've ever had." -Graeme Thurman, Production

"So beautiful. It was a surreal experience. Wonderful to see science at work." - Heather Huston, VP of Marketing

In the meantime, check out photos from before and during the event with the RFD-TV and RURAL RADIO Channel 147 staff.
