A Cargill meat processing facility in Dodge City, Kansas caught fire on Friday, but the blaze was quickly contained. The Dodge City fire chief says fire crews were dispatched around 3:10 p.m. They found a fire in the vent system, where some workers were doing some welding while others watched for sparks. A spark caught some grease on fire. Meatingplace.com reports the plant is now operating normally.
Also on Friday, in Chester Township, Ohio, flames destroyed an empty chicken barn at Shaggy Apple Farm. No animals were harmed in the fire.
