State of Sugar Amid COVID

The pandemic sours markets for the sugar industry. Despite market challenges, General Manager of the American Sugar Cane League, Jim Simon, says that there are measures in place that have helped during this time. He states, “Our arrangement with Mexico is what’s holding that price where it is and that’s very important to us. We’re fortunate that we do not export any sugar... we have to import sugar into the U.S. So, the export markets that are causing problems for many of the other commodities aren’t affecting us in sugar.”
