As speculation over climate change continues, researches from the University of California, Davis are rethinking methane and showing that climate neutrality is within reach for the state’s dairy sector.
Dr. Frank Mitloehner, a professor at UC and an air quality specialist, speaks with RFD-TV’s own Christina Loren on his latest research with methane and what the common misconceptions are that need to be reversed.
“The most common misconception is that people think that whenever methane is produced then it just accumulates in the atmosphere, like CO2 and other greenhouse gasses, that is not the case.” Mitloehner said. “Methane is produced and destroyed at almost equal rates, and if you, in an industry like the dairy industry, manage to reduce methane... then you are actively pulling carbon out of the atmosphere, which has an immediate cooling effect.”
