Walworth, Wisconsin-- An exceptional private collection containing some of the most unique and rare prairie tractors will be offered by Mecum Gone Farmin’ at a live, on-site auction this Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in Frankfort, Illinois. The George & June Schaaf Tractor & Truck Museum comprises an unparalleled assemblage of more than 70 tractors and trucks, 600 signs and relics, 300 dolls, and 500 farm toys, all of which will be offered at no reserve at the Schaaf Museum in Frankfort.
Vintage tractor aficionado George Schaaf is passionate about collecting and restoring both tractors and trucks, and his determination and talent for seeking out the best of the best is clearly visible among the offerings of his hand-selected, high-quality collection. There are several especially iconic tractors to emerge from this exceptional collection, including Schaaf’s meticulously restored 1917 Willmar Little Oak with its eye-catching red and yellow paint scheme.
Another is his 1913 Hart-Parr 30-60, which is an astonishing piece of American agricultural history and is arguably the nicest 30-60 anywhere, both mechanically and cosmetically, with gearing in remarkable condition. The 30-60’s stellar reputation even earned it placement on the cover of the November/December 2014 issue of Antique Power magazine. Other high-profile tractors in the Schaaf museum include a 1920 Stinson 18-36 and a 1920 Aultman-Taylor Model 15-30. The Schaaf museum also features the most complete Avery series ever offered at auction, with models ranging from 1912 to 1923, including a meticulously restored 1916 Avery 40-80. It is a rare sight to see one of these tractors at an auction, and to have all of these offered together at one auction is extraordinary and the first time it has ever been done.
A fine collection of more than 600 farm signs, gas pumps and relics will cross the block as well, in addition to more than 300 dolls from June Schaaf’s personal collection, including the Grand Duchess Anastasia doll and a hand-painted, porcelain Franklin Mint Heirloom doll—Tatiana, Princess of Imperial Ice Palace. This museum also includes a selection of more than 500 farm toys that make a delightful addition to any agriculturally focused collection.
