Two horses have now been culled in Nevada following the detection of a mosquito-borne illness.
The state’s department of ag reminds ranchers to get their horses vaccinated against West Nile virus. While the illness is considered curable, treatments can fail and result in death.
In addition to the vaccine, horse owners are encouraged to eliminate any standing water to limit mosquito populations.
