SNAP has been at the center of most Farm Bill discussions. Democratic ag leaders are still pushing back on the House Farm Bill layout, which they claim will take money from SNAP participants.
However, House Ag Committee Chair GT Thompson disagrees, and says inflationary adjustments to SNAP would continue. It is discretionary increases that would not receive additional funding.
Thompson has called his plan a win for everyone, and reminds opponents farmers have taken enough cuts in prior farm bills.
“I assume it needs reminding of contemporary farm bills where farmers were stripped of billions of dollars in exchange for additional funds in nutrition.”
The current one-year extension of the 2018 Farm Bill will expire the last day of this month.
