Chronic wasting disease has been detected in Washington state

A fatal deer disease has been detected for the first time in Washington state.

Chronic wasting disease, often referred to as CWD, is an infectious prion disease similar to mad cow disease. It causes deer to drool profusely, have a lack of coordination, or appear listless.
There is currently no cure.

CWD was first detected in Colorado, back in 1967. Since then it has spread and now has been found in 34 additional states.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife shared that they are reviewing their management plan and will announce additional actions soon.
