The U.S. exported around $70 million worth of milk powder to Colombia last year, but new tariffs could threaten that relationship.
The Latin American country is investigating subsidies and countervailing measures for U.S. powdered milk exports, and it is a move that does not sit well with ag groups.
The National Milk Producers Federation, along with the U.S. Dairy Export Council are pushing back. They are asking U.S. Trade Rep Katherine Tai to leverage all available tools if Colombia moves forward with the tariffs.
Groups say markets in Latin America are crucial for the U.S. dairy industry, and call the tariff threats “meritless.”
