Congressman Don Bacon lies out his Farm Bill priorities, including ASF and biofuels

As the U.S. House waits for committee assignments, one Congressman from Nebraska says he is already working on his priorities for the next Farm Bill that is due in less than nine months.

Don Bacon tells Brownfield Ag News that crop insurance is the top issue.

“I hear from our farmers frequently that crop insurance is the most important thing they need. We should study it to see how we could tweak it better to make it current with what the current needs are.”

Additionally, he says more research money is needed to develop a vaccine for African Swine Fever. And when it comes to biofuels, he feels that expanding them are critical for diversifying markets for farmers.

Bacon has requested a seat at the table on the House Ag Committee. Selections could happen in the next few weeks.
