Doug McKalip On Corn Ban: Mexico needs to honor their commitment to USMCA

We are now hearing from the Chief Ag Negotiator about the first steps in a formal dispute against Mexico’s genetically-modified corn ban. Doug McKalip says Mexico needs to do its part in honoring the USMCA trade agreement.

“These are now things that we are asking, a new commitment or a new promise, but instead, it is something that we believe countries have already agreed to when they put their name next to following risk assessments, following science. So, it is our expectation that countries are able to live up to those commitments that are already in place.”

Senate Ag Committee Ranking Member John Boozman said a statement this week, “We have an obligation to ensure American producers are given the fair access to markets they were promised. Ambassador Katherine Tai and her team ought to be commended.”
