Taking their technology from the fields to the sky!
Farmers with drones were some of the first to lend a helping hand after Hurricane Helene’s destruction.
Farmers from as far away as Wisconsin used their drones. The technology allowed them to locate stranded people, deliver supplies to inaccessible areas, and even help reconnect loved ones.
Within three days, they created a fund and raised more than $12,000 to help purchase supplies.
Last week, some temporary flight restrictions were put in place.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg says that clearing airspace is necessary for any flights or drone activity for emergency responders to do their job.
However, since then the U.S. Department of Transportation has released an update, sharing that previous temporary flight restrictions have been lifted and civilian drone pilots are indeed permitted to assist in rescue and recovery efforts.
