Federal Maritime Commission finalizes new rules to make ag shipping more fair

In an effort to make ag shipping more efficient and fair, the Federal Maritime Commission has finalized some new rules.

It is part of the Ocean Shipping Reform Act of 2022. The final rule from the FMC defines how they consider when shippers have unreasonably refused cargo space. The Commission says if carriers can prove there was a good reason for refusal, they would be following the law.

The Ag Transportation Coalition says there have not been many refusals lately, but say the rule will help encourage carriers to make their best efforts.
