Hit the Ground Running: Another ag group is hopeful of Trump’s second term

In a little more than a month, the new Administration will be in place. The Agribusiness Freedom Foundation has been watching events unfold since the election, and says President-elect Trump should be able to hit the ground running.

“We have gotten a president the second time around who understands a little bit better. I mean, he’s a businessman, and of course, part of his charm, if you will, in dealing with the electorate, has been he understands the working man. This is a guy who had to deal with contractors of all sorts. And that’s given him an appreciation for the working man in the country. And that’s been kind of important. He probably paid more attention to agriculture than all the people expected in the first term, and I think that will continue in the second one,” said Steve Dittmer.

Dittmer says of all the things coming out of USDA in recent years, he is most concerned with the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee. That group recently announced an emphasis on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and seafood. However, they called on consumers to reduce their consumption of red and processed meats.
