Health and agriculture experts around the world say High Pathogenic Avian Influenza is now endemic and threatens the non-stop war on poultry.
The record-setting outbreak has reached new corners of the globe with Argentina and Uruguay declaring sanitary emergencies. A survey by Reuters shows more than 20 experts warn the virus is not going away and farmers must view the disease as a serious risk all year. They say it poses a new threat to global food security.
Several cases of the virus have surfaced over the last week here in the United States, but no cases involved more than 300 birds. In Kansas, 30 birds died at a non-poultry facility, 60 birds died in Washington State, 10 birds died after an outbreak in Florida, and 250 birds were culled in New York State after an outbreak in a facility.
Nearly 59 million have died in what is called the largest biosecurity outbreak in U.S. history.
