Illinois Farm Bureau on preparing for the arctic blast

Farmers across the northern plains and Midwest are bracing for a widespread arctic outbreak, set to bring some of winter’s coldest temperatures yet. With peak cold scheduled to hit this weekend, preparation continues to protect livestock.

Cow-calf producer Tim Maiers with the Illinois Farm Bureau speaks with RFD-TV’s own Christina Loren on his expectations, how he is preparing, the risks to livestock, and other ag implications.

“Any time you get this cold weather anything you do is harder... You’re always concerned about frozen water lines... getting the machinery to start and like I said, everything is harder this time of year, trying to haul grain and all the things you are trying to do when it gets that cold. It just seems to be harder to do and more challenging. But, you deal with it... hopefully we can get through this,” Maiers states.
