Meet Bobi, the world’s oldest living livestock guardian breed dog

Bobi is a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, which is a breed of livestock guardian dog with a life expectancy of 14 years. Except he is 30.

Guinness World Records recently announced that Bobi, a dog from Portugal, is the world’s oldest living dog.

Leonal Costa, the owner, tells Guinness that Bobi is lucky to be alive because his father was a hunter with many dogs and did not want to keep the litter that Bobi was a part of.

What is the secret to Bobi’s longevity? According to Costa, it is Bobi’s diet of only eating human food.

“Bobi has been a warrior for all these years, only he knows how he’s been holding on, it must not be easy because the average dog’s life span is not that high and if he spoke only he could explain this success.”

Even at the age of 30, he enjoys playing with his four cat siblings but also enjoys laying low, snuggled up by the fireplace.

The previous record holder for the oldest dog ever was Bluey, an Australian cattle dog who lived to be 29 years old in 1939.
