Harnessing solar power is one of the more popular methods of creating supplemental electricity. This is why the U.S. Department of Energy is offering some significant funding for research to integrate solar with cattle grazing.
It is through the Lasso Prize that the Energy Department has dedicated more than $8 million in funding to support. The goal is to find a way to scale up dual land use for solar and cattle grazing.
Department leaders told Brownfield Ag News they are looking for teams to design new solar capture systems with cattle in mind. Applications for the project open in September, and resources are already available through the Department of Energy.
