Producers still heavily rely on H-2A workers, a report shows

We are two weeks away from the Inauguration, and President-elect Trump will take the Oath of Office for the second time on January 20th.

He has a full agenda, with ag leaders urging him to take action on farm labor.

“The avalanche of rulemaking that’s happened over the past couple of years. We’ve seen three-to-4,000 pages of new regulations over the past two years affecting agricultural employers, and we’re also looking at the per-worker cost of bringing in these H-2A workers. So, we saw petition fees increase over the past year or two. We’ve also seen, in certain states, minimum wage increases that will certainly directly impact H-2A wages,” said John Walt Boatright.

Demand for the program was up around two percent last season, landing around 385,000 H-2A workers in the United States, which is up 6,000 from the previous year, showing growing demand for the program.
