The livestock sector has seen its share of ups and downs in recent years. However, an ag economist with the University of Missouri says there could be some relief on the horizon.
When it comes to the beef herd, Economist Scott Brown says it has taken longer than anticipated to start the rebuilding process, but says 2026 might be the year the industry once again sees growth. Pork producers could also see some relief. Brown says many are working to regain their financial footing, but notes recent positive balances are a step in the right direction.
For the dairy industry, he says prices have improved, and lower crop prices could give those producers some relief.
